Hello new friends! Welcome to Raney’s Revelations.
Who Am I?
My name is Loraine, but my mom gave me the nickname Raney (pronounced “rainy” and yes, it is really spelled that way). As a kid, and more specifically, as a teenager, I was embarrassed by the name. But as an adult, I have embraced it as a loving nickname used by family and friends.
I have been married to my husband for almost 15 years now. We are a blended family. We have five children between us – three that live at home with us, one living on their own, and one that has gone home to be with Jesus. We also have a dog and a cat. And… I homeschool my two youngest children. Life is rarely boring.
My personality is a mix of creative and analytical tendencies as evidenced by my two choice careers – writer and accountant. I know, right? It works, but I’m still figuring out how. 🙂
Here are a few things that you may not know about me:
- One of my favorite musical groups is the Scottish band, Peatbog Fairies. I heard their music played once at a Scottish festival, bought the CD and have been a fan ever since.
- I never thought I would have kids because I wasn’t the type of teenager who babysat. I never thought I was good with kids and I certainly wasn’t going to have any because I would have to have a blood test to do so! People always told me that it would be different with my own kids. Lesson learned? They were absolutely right. I couldn’t imagine life without mine.
- I lived in the same house until I graduated high school, but in the years that my husband and I have been married, we have moved an average of every two years. I don’t like moving, despite popular opinion, but I am not afraid of change if I think the outcome will be better for me and my family.
- I have a mentally handicapped older brother. He was three years older than me and lived at home until I was in high school when he went to live in a group home where he could get better care than we were able to provide him. He passed away several years ago, but he taught me a lot about the nature of people (good and bad).
Why This Blog?
When I first started this blog, I was just going to share what I was learning because I love to learn. A little while after I had been blogging I began a journey to improve myself using baby steps. Big changes are sometimes difficult to make, but I just knew that if I could make little changes (baby steps) I would be able to accomplish my goals. It has been working and I want to, not only share what I’ve been learning, but also encourage you that you can do it too.
What’s In It For You?
First of all, I want you to be encouraged that you can absolutely reach your goals and make a better you. Second, I want you to be able to make your own baby steps to a better you. Third, I want you to be able to share your journey with me. We can all be better versions of ourselves and live our lives better.
Won’t you be my friend and join me on this adventure of learning and sharing?
