Welcome to Week 45 of the 52 weeks to a better you journey.
With all of the negativity going on in the world today, you may think this baby step is crazy, but bear with me here…
Get the news for 5 minutes every day
I know it sounds counterproductive to becoming a better you, but not the way we will tackle it.
It’s important that we know what is going on in the world around us. Part of becoming a better you also involves making the world a better place. How can we do that if we hide our heads in the sand?
The thing is that, if you actually dwelled on the amount of news doled out every day, you would probably find yourself drowning in negativity and perhaps wanting to give up on improving anything.
We do not want that.
It’s a good thing we are doing baby steps here because that is all we need (and probably all most of us can handle).
For 5 minutes every day we will find a trusted news source and get highlights on what is going on around us.
Don’t watch the full news reports or listen to the hours of commentary or read everyone’s opinions on the news. Just get the headlines. For now, we just want to have knowledge about our world. We are not looking for a cause to support or an argument to settle. We just want to know about things happening.
What is going on in the world today?
Baby step for this week: For 5 minutes every day, find out what is going on in the world around you. Here are a few tips to help you:
- Use a trusted news source (not usually your friends and family)
- Only get the highlights/headlines
- Only put 5 minutes into this
- If something interests you, tuck it away for later. That will give your brain time to process how important it is to you
- Even though you will hear a lot of bad, focus on the good
- Reflect on the good in your own life
What about you?
Do you know what is going on in the world?
