Welcome to Week 21 of the 52 weeks to a better you journey.

This week we will be taking a baby step to add to one of our previous ones. On week 2 we began to do 15 minutes every day of movement. If you have been doing that 15 minutes every day or even most of the time, you have begun a great habit.

Week 21

Move for 30 minutes every day

Movement is very important to our bodies. If we don’t move enough our muscles begin to get weak. Movement also helps our bodies perform the tasks that it needs to survive. Movement helps our circulation, it helps our breathing, and it helps our digestion.

This week begin to add 15 minutes of additional movement to your daily regiment. You can do this anytime during the day. I found it easy to just add the 15 minutes to my already established movement, which was exercise. But if you want to do 15 minutes at one point during the day and then the other 15 minutes at another point, go right ahead.

Maybe you have 15 minutes during your lunch hour that you can slip in some walking. How about slipping some movement in before you go to bed at night? The goal is to get 30 minutes total in during your day.

Most movement that gets your heart pumping will benefit you.

Baby step for this week: Move for 30 minutes every day. If you already move a lot every day, give yourself a high five, keep doing it, and come back next week. If you already move  a little every day, add 15 minutes to it or increase the intensity of how you already move. (Example: If you already walk 30 minutes, then try walking 45 minutes or increase the pace of your current 30 minute walks)

I love this baby step because you can feel the changes in your health relatively quickly once you get into the habit of moving regularly.

Here are a few tips to get your 30 minutes of movement in every day:

  • Walk in place while you watch TV
  • Plug in to your favorite music and walk with it (or dance to it)
  • Play with your children
  • Pace while you are talking on the phone
  • Park farther back in the parking lot at the store
  • Take the stairs rather than the elevator
  • Walk over to the neighbors house to say hello
  • Get a friend to join you.
