52 Weeks to a Better You – Week 11

52 Weeks to a Better You - Week 11 | www.raneysrevelations.com

Welcome to Week 11 of the 52 weeks to a better you journey.

Okay, we have been at this journey for 11 weeks now and if you have been sticking to at least one baby step, you should find yourself with at least one good habit if not more.

What baby step has become a habit for you?

This week we are going to put the focus on relationships with others. We live in a world with people and to become better ourselves, we must be intentional about how we deal with other people in our lives.

Week 11

Compliment someone every day

This baby step may be a difficult one or an easy one, depending on your personality. Some people are encouraging by nature. I have a daughter who is that way. She looks for things to compliment people on and then does it. Family, friends, acquaintances, and even complete strangers.

Now you may think it doesn’t matter. But it does. You never know what is going on inside of a person. I have watched the faces of the people that my daughter compliments and I’m going to tell you something…

It matters.

It matters to the person that you took the time to speak a kindness to.

It matters to the people who witness you doing it.

It matters to you.

How can complimenting someone help me be a better person?

Well, for one thing, it makes us focus on someone outside of ourselves. In a good way. Another way that we become better people is that knowing you’ve touched someone with kindness makes you feel better about yourself.

Speaking kindness to someone can change the world. At least, it can change yours.

Baby step for this week: Give a genuine compliment to someone every day. Don’t expect any response. If you get one, great, but if you don’t, that’s okay. We are not doing this for the benefit of a response. If you are a person who struggles with encouraging others, here are some tips to help:

  • Compliment someone you love. It’s easier to do that with people we know and love.
  • Look for something to compliment about. Are they wearing something you like? Did they do something that you admire?
  • Don’t wait for a response. Speak your kindness and then go about your business.
  • Step out of your comfort zone and compliment someone you don’t know on a job well done.
  • Smile

What about you?

Are you an encourager by nature or will this baby step be a little work for you?

Who will you compliment today?
