Welcome to Week 10 of the 52 weeks to a better you journey.
Do you feel like time is flying by? It seems like just yesterday we were starting this journey to improve ourselves in baby steps and now, here we are on week 10! No matter how you have been doing on this journey so far, I want you to give yourself a high five for sticking with me here. 🙂
This week we are going to turn our focus to something that we all do and we all need: Sleep. Our bodies work hard every day just in the normal functioning from our head to our toes. To take care of that hard working gift that is our body, we have to take time to refresh it.
Sleep for 15 minutes longer every day
Many of us do not get enough sleep every day. I am definitely one of those people. I don’t know how much sleep your body needs, but mine needs a good eight hours for me to feel well rested. Everyone is different so you should pay attention to your body and determine how much sleep you need.
I don’t know about you, but I’m one of those people that will skim time off my sleeping time to take care of other things. Whether it is going to bed a little bit later than I should or even getting up a little bit earlier. I get somewhere between 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 hours so I should be good right?
Those extra minutes count. They really do.
Now the other thing that I need to point out is that the 8 hours of sleep that I need is not just me being in bed for 8 hours. It is me actually sleeping. Restful sleeping. Even on those days when I go to bed and get up 8 hours later, my restful sleep isn’t that full 8 hours.
I recently received a Fitbit as a gift and I thought that was great because that will help me keep track of my exercise everyday. I didn’t know that I would also be able to monitor my sleeping habits.
Wow. What an eye opener. 😮
I’m not getting enough rest every day. I shouldn’t have been surprised, but I was. I thought I was doing okay in that respect.
Not great, but okay.
Turns out, I’m not doing as okay as I thought.
Another thing that I need to improve upon. 🙁
We need to be well rested for our bodies to run at their best.
Baby step for this week: Add 15 minutes to your sleeping time every day. Go to bed 15 minutes earlier or wake up 15 minutes later. If you already get plenty of rest then give yourself a high five and come back next week. Although I would challenge you to determine if you really are getting enough. I thought I was getting more rest than I was.
What about you?
Are you getting enough sleep every day?
Have you ever monitored your sleep habits?
